A Promise To Make To Yourself

I thought I’d share with you an excerpt from my book, Turning Off The Tap: Overcoming The Real Reasons We Overeat

This is a declaration that I provide at the very beginning of the book and ask all of my readers to copy out and sign.

I share it with you here for free and encourage you to do the same.

Before we dive in, I want to invite you to make a declaration right now.

I know that you’ve tried a million things including diets, workouts and shakes and I know that there’s a little part of you that believes that, just like all of those, this probably isn’t going to work either.

But here’s the thing: your thoughts have the power to create your reality. And what you believe is very often what you end up receiving.

It was Henry Ford who famously said, “Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.”

So, before you begin this new leg of your journey, I want you to shut down those old, negative thought habits (yes, they’re habits), and I want you to stand up, stand tall and declare to the universe that this is the beginning of something very new for you.

First, I want you to read this declaration out loud and then I want you to open a journal or find a piece of paper and copy it out, word for word, in your own handwriting:

I am open to thinking about things in a way that I haven’t before.

I am willing to be wrong about things I’ve believed to be true about myself and my relationship with food up to this point.

I am committed to being more deliberate with my thoughts and actions.

I am ready to step into the highest version of myself.

I promise to embark on this work with honesty, bravery, patience and compassion for myself at all times.
