Can Law of Attraction Help you Lose Weight?

For those of you who are huge fans of Abraham, Esther and Jerry Hicks, Napoleon Hill, Louise Hay or Mike Dooley, the concept of the law of attraction will be very familiar to you.

For those of you who are new to this idea, the basic concept behind the law of attraction is that “like attracts like.” And that, since everything in the universe is made up of energy (including us humans), like energy attracts like energy. This means that when you focus on the negative, the same vibrational frequency of energy will be attracted into your experience, and, vice versa, when you focus on the positive, things that align with that vibrational frequency will be attracted towards you.

So, if indeed the law of attraction is governing our lives in much the same way the law of gravity is, here are three ways that you can use the law of attraction to begin to transform your relationship with food and your body.

Mindfulness

If our thoughts create our reality, then it follows that we need to first start becoming really aware of what we’re thinking about. And I’m afraid that, when it comes to our relationship with food and our bodies, what we’re thinking about is usually pretty awful.

If it’s true that “like attracts like” and what you’re usually thinking about is how “bad” you are, how weak are, how lazy you are, how you’re never going to lose the weight, or how hard it all is, guess what you’re attracting more and more of into your experience. Yup, not good.

I call all that nastiness in your head, “The Mean Voice” and if you’re going to start working with the law of attraction to transform your health and your relationship with food, then it’s important that you begin to become more aware of The Mean Voice and – as much as possible – consciously choose not to engage with where it wants to take you.

Clarity

According to the law of attraction, part of purposefully creating what you want in your life, involves knowing very clearly what that is.

So, if you want to finally lose those pounds you’ve been shedding and gaining again for years, and you want to end emotional eating, self-sabotage, binging and constant cravings, you need to get crystal clear on exactly what you’re trying to create when it comes to your relationship with food.

Now, you may think you already spend lots of time thinking about what you want – too much time, in fact – but don’t confuse obsessing about food with thinking about what you want.

They’re very different.

See, when it comes to our diet, our bodies and our health, we spend an awful lot of time thinking and talking about what we DON’T want.

We don’t want to weigh this much. We don’t want to feel tired all the time. We don’t want to feel powerless around certain foods. We don’t want it to all be so hard. But, we spend very little time thinking about what we DO want.

Part of harnessing the law of attraction to transform your body and your relationship with food, is getting super clear about exactly what success will look like for you. “Losing weight” or “having more energy” are not clear or specific enough vibrationally to attract anything into your experience.

I want you to really sit down and think about this. I want you to think about exactly what it is you want. How do you want your body to look? What do you want to be able to physically do with ease and joy? How do you want to FEEL as you move through your day and encounter foods that you know would not serve you?

Self-care

A key factor in working with the law of attraction to co-create your experience in the universe is raising your own vibration. The higher your energetic frequency, the higher the frequency of the people, thoughts and experiences you will attract into your reality.

One of the best ways to raise your vibration is through the foods we eat and the way we care for our bodies, minds and souls throughout the day.

High-vibration foods

You are what you eat, so when you eat foods that have a high energetic frequency, you raise your own frequency. When you eat foods that have a low energetic frequency, you lower your frequency.

This is a big part of the reason you feel like you can fly after drinking a big green juice, but want to pass out on the couch after downing half a pizza.

I call these foods with high energetic frequencies, “high vibration foods” and the more of them you can pack into your regular diet, the higher your own vibration is going to be and the better you’re going to be at attracting high vibration experiences into your life.

When we start to think about what we eat in terms of energy rather than macro nutrients, calories or ratios, we start to approach food for the purpose it was intended – to fuel our bodies, minds and spirits.

A food’s energetic frequency is essentially determined by how it was produced and processed. Generally speaking, the closer a food is when you eat it to the way it was when it came out of the ground, the higher its vibration.

High vibration foods include:

Raw vegetables and fruits, lightly cooked vegetables and fruits, sprouts, whole grains, raw nuts and seeds, fresh herbs and spices, fresh vegetables juices, unpasteurized honey, herbal teas, fermented foods, beans, legumes, raw cacao.

Low vibrations foods include:

White flours, white rice, most packaged foods, hydrogenated oils, vegetable oils, refined sugar, alcohol, dairy products, microwaved foods, fast food.

Remember that, according to the law of attraction, like attracts like. This means that the more you nourish your body with high vibration foods, the higher your own vibration will be, and the more successful you’ll be at creating the relationship with your food and your body that you desire.

Self-care

Your energy, motivation and focus are finite resources and when you spend all day giving, giving, giving and never making time to refill your cup, you’re leaving yourself utterly depleted, which is an incredibly low vibrational state and not a place from which you will easily manifest the healthy body and life that you want.

The ONLY solution here is to stop ending every day with an empty cup. Stop running yourself ragged and clawing your way to the finish line every night so that you end up lying on the couch, zoned out in front of the TV or your ipad, mindlessly eating junk in an attempt to recharge and replenish.

When I talk about self-care, I’m not talking about bubble baths and spa days (although those are lovely). I’m talking about something deeper. I’m talking about consciously making time every day for activities, practices and rituals that soothe and nourish your soul. That make you smile. That light you up. That make you feel more like yourself again. That raise your vibration.

The truth is that you absolutely have the power to create the relationship with food and your body that you truly desire, and the law of attraction can help you do that. By being more mindful about your thoughts, getting super clear on exactly what it is you’re trying to create, and raising your energetic vibration by eating high vibration foods and making self-care a priority in your life, you can become a powerful co-creator of your own experience.

My pre-new year’s resolution has been to start taking better care of myself. I am amazed at how hard I am finding this to be and how much time it seems to require. I can’t do everything at once, but I am starting with a commitment to doing 20 or so decompression sessions at the chiropractors. Since that involves some quit time alone, I’m working on relaxation. I am also trying to get up earlier to be able to just sit and have a cup of coffee and walk the dogs. Haven’t nailed that one yet. Love this article. You are so right!
